Olympics:
Canada 1 Colombia 0
The Canadian women’s Olympic soccer team has clinched a birth in the quarter-finals following a 1-0 win over Colombia today.
Vanessa Giles rippled the onion bag in the 60th minute to give the Canadians the lead. Canada clinches 2nd place in Group A and will play Germany.

Canada earned the silver medal in women’s rugby sevens at the Paris Olympics.
Canada lost the final 19-12 (Tuesday) to top-ranked New Zealand after earlier in the day defeating Australia 21-12 in the semifinal.
Following competition on Tuesday, Canadian athletes have earned a total of half-a-dozen medals; two gold, two silver and two bronze.

The Canadian men’s basketball team is 2-0 at the Olympics after a 93-83 victory over Australia.
The seventh-ranked Canadians play their next game on Friday (8:15 a.m. PT) against Spain but regardless of a win or a loss they have qualified for the quarterfinals.

Ilya Kharun is the first Canadian man to win an Olympic swimming medal in 12 years.
The Montreal born Kharun earned bronze in the 200-metre butterfly.

Canadian athletes have seven medals at the Paris Games (two gold, two silver and three bronze).

17-year-old Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh of Toronto competes today in the
women’s 200-m butterfly although the finals are not until later in the week.
McIntosh has already won gold in the women’s 400-metre individual medley and a silver in the 400-metre freestyle.

Hockey:
Forward Cameron Schmidt of Prince George, who plays for the Vancouver Giants, is one of eight WHL players selected to represent Hockey Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The Under-18 tournament starts on Monday and will be played until Saturday, August 10th in Edmonton.

Baltimore Orioles 10 Toronto Blue Jays 4
Jackson Holliday’s 5th inning grand slam saw the Jays fall to 50-59 on the season.
Toronto fell 6-2 to Baltimore on Tuesday.

CFL: (Week 9)
The 9th week of the CFL season starts Thursday night (5:30) with the (5-2) B.C. Lions at the (2-6) Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Lions are tied with (5-2) Saskatchewan for top spot in the West Division.
