Olympics:

17-year-old Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh of Toronto has her second Olympic medal in Paris.

She led wire-to-wire capturing gold today (Monday) in the women’s 400-metre individual medley.

McIntosh took silver in the 400-metre freestyle on Saturday.

Canada has five medals, two gold, a silver and two bronze.

Canada’s other gold came in women’s judo from Christa Deguchi (in 57-kg class).

She is Canada’s first Olympic champion in judo.

The 28-year-old Deguchi lives and trains in Japan, the country of her birth.

She has competed for Canada for seven years through her Canadian dad.

Canadian divers Nathan Zsombor Murray of Pointe-Claire, Quebec and Rylan Wiens of Regina captured the bronze medal today (Monday) in the men’s synchronized 10-metre platform.

Eleanor Harvey of Hamilton is the first Canadian ever to win an Olympic fencing medal when she captured bronze Sunday in women’s foil competition.

Women’s soccer:

Canada  2  France  1

Canada also won its opener 2-1 over New Zealand.

FIFA has deducted six points from the Canadian women’s soccer team after three coaches were suspended for their role in the drone spying scandal.

Canada is appealing the decision.

The next game for Canada will be on Wednesday against Colombia.

Westshore Rebels  45  Prince George Kodiaks  25  (Saturday)

The (1-1) Kodiaks play their next game Saturday in Langley against the (0-1) Rams.

Their next home game is August 10th at 6 PM against the Valley Huskers.

Bo Levi Mitchell passed for a career-high 5 touchdowns for the 2-5 Tiger-Cats.

The Elks fell to 0-7.

The (5-2) B.C. Lions had the weekend off.

They visit the (2-6) Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday to begin Week 9.

The Blue Bombers lost 16-14 in overtime Saturday in Toronto.

Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George has signed a pro baseball contract to play in Korea.

The 29-year-old Young started the season with the Memphis Red Birds, the AAA farm club of the St Louis Cardinals.

 

MLB: 

Toronto Blue Jays  7  Texas Rangers  3

The (49-56) Jays swept the three-game series against the Rangers to finish 6-3 on a 9-game homestand.

They start a 4-game series against the A.L. East-leading (62-43) Orioles this afternoon (12:05) in Baltimore.
