Hockey:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have signed defenseman Jayden Connors for the upcoming season.

The 17-year-old Connors is from Toronto, who spent last season with the St. Michaels Buzzers of the OJHL, notching 23 points in 46 games.

He is committed to the University of New Hampshire following his time in the BCHL.

The Portland Winterhawks have promoted longtime assistant coach Kyle Gustafson to head coach.

He replaces Mike Johnston who has signed a four-year extension to continue as President & General Manager of the Winterhawks.

Former Minnesota Wild head coach Dean Evason has a new job behind the bench.

The 59-year-old Evason has been hired as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

 

MLB: 

The Toronto Blue Jays play their 100th game of the season tonight (Tuesday 4:07) when they host the (50-50) Tampa Bay Rays.

The (45-54) Jays are 1-2 on a 9-game homestand.

BCFC:

The Prince George Kodiaks hit the road this week for their second game of the season in the BC Football Conference.

The Kodiaks visit the defending champion Westshore Rebels Saturday at 4 PM.

Both teams won their opener: Prince George 39-34 over the Vancouver Island Raiders and Westshore 43-27 over the Kamloops Broncos.

CFL:  

Week 8 of the CFL season starts Thursday (4:30) with Saskatchewan at Montreal.

Both the Roughriders and Alouettes are 5-1, tied for the best record in the league.

The (5-2) B.C. Lions are idle until Thursday, August 1st when they visit the (2-5) Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
