Wildfire avoided after vehicle extinguished near UNBC

There was a close call in Prince George last night, caused by a vehicle fire in a wooded area.

According to the City, Prince George Fire Rescue and a BC Wildfire Service Helicopter headed to a reported wildfire near the UNBC campus at around 6:30 last night.

Crews were able to reach the “difficult-to-access wooded area” on foot where they found a vehicle entirely engulfed in flame.

Water, staff, and equipment were brought to the scene using an access road, and the fire was put out before it spread.

The City reports the vehicle was abandoned and completely destroyed, the cause has not yet been determined.

No injuries were reported, the remains of the vehicle will be removed at a later time.
