Patients are being transported out of the Stuart Lake Hospital in Fort St. James due to the out-of-control Pitka Creek wildfire, which has caused an area about one kilometer south of the town to go under an evacuation alert.
Northern Health says the hospital and emergency room are still open for urgent care and will remain that way unless the need to evacuate changes.
Patients are being transferred to Vanderhoof’s hospital due to concerns surrounding the fire, which has parts of Highway 27 under evacuation alert.
Everyone living within the evacuation alert boundaries on the south side of Stuart Lake should be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice, should the alert turn into an order.
