It has been a lively afternoon in downtown Prince George so far today (Saturday).
The annual Downtown Summerfest is in full swing outside of City Hall in the Veterans Memorial Plaza.
Hundreds of people have shown up to the event, which includes food trucks, vendors, rides on a mini train, live music, and a petting zoo.
Colleen Van Mook, the Executive Director of Downtown PG, said “you can shop, you can eat, you can explore, and we invite you to visit some of our great restaurants and shops too.”
Just over an hour into the event, Van Mook said she was already happy with the turnout.
“We know it is hot, but we have shade, a misting station, it is going to be a good day to head downtown.”
The event also marks the start of the ‘taste of downtown’ summer passport program.
According to Van Mook, 12 participating restaurants will validate special passports when customers eat at their location until August 31st.
Every time you are validated, you are entered into a draw for $500 in gift cards to various downtown businesses.
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Downtown Prince George Organization.
“We are here to promote downtown. Putting on an event like Summerfest is a way to bring people downtown,” Van Mook said. “We want people to know there are great entrepreneurs in our downtown, and great places to eat, shop, explore and thrive.”
Downtown Summerfest runs until 4:00.
