Downtown Summerfest is returning to Veteran’s Plaza at City Hall this weekend.
“We’re excited that it’s definitely summer, we really want to invite the community to come down and help us to celebrate downtown and celebrate summer,” said Downtown Prince George Executive Director Colleen Van Mook.
This year’s Summerfest will also feature the launch of Downtown Prince George’s Taste of Downtown program.
“We like to remind people that downtown is also a great place to shop, explore, thrive and eat,” Van Mook said.
“It’s a passport program, if you decide to go and visit the participating restaurants and validate your visit, you can enter as many times as you fill out an entry form and you could win up to $500 of gift certificates at some great downtown restaurants.”
Van Mook said the passports will be available at Downtown Summerfest, at participating restaurants, and at some hotels.
“That actual program is going to go until the end of August.”
Van Mook added they’re trying to bring back Summerfest in the way people remember how it was before the pandemic.
“All our partners are activating many fun activities for families,” Van Mook said.
“We want people to visit the farmers markets, take in some of the unique shopping experiences that are on Fourth Avenue, so really it’s new for us to put this all together the way we remember it in the past.”
This year also marks 25 for the Downtown Prince George Business Improvement Association.
“We’re here to support our businesses downtown, to make downtown a better place,” she said.
“We just want to remind people that we want to continue to do that, we work hard to keep downtown clean and safe, and we put on these events to give people that positive experience and help to celebrate the great businesses that are trying to bring uniqueness to our community.”
The festival runs from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
