The “BC-Alberta wine war” is over.
The Alberta government had previously blocked direct sales from BC wineries because it was missing out on the income from the markup that is usually charged.
This practice had been going on for years.
The two province have agreed to establish a virtual “warehouse” to clear all shipments and collect the proper fees, markups, and taxes.
“BC wines are world-class and should be enjoyed across Canada and around the world,” said BC Premier David Eby.
“[Tuesday’s] agreement ends the temporary ban on direct sales to customers in Alberta, and that’s a win for BC’s grape growers and wineries, as well as a win for Albertans who have excellent taste in wine.”
Exact details aren’t known yet, but online orders can resume.
According to the BC Government, $105 is contributed to the regional and national economy for every bottle of BC wine sold.
