Hockey:

A pair of standout Prince George Cougars, forward Riley Heidt and goalie Josh Ravensbergen have been invited to Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase tournament.

It will run from July 30th to August 3rd in Windsor, Ontario and Plymouth, Michigan.

The tournament serves as a tryout for the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship which goes from December 26, 2024- January 5, 2025 in Ottawa.

In addition, PG’s Cameron Schmidt of the Vancouver Giants is one of 13 WHL players invited to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Selection Camp July 27th to 30th in Calgary.

The players will compete for a spot to represent Canada at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton from August 5th to 10th.

P.G. Cougars defenseman Carson Carels has been invited to Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp July 18th to 24th in Oakville, Ont.

 

MLB: (94th All-Star game in Arlington, Texas)

The AL improved to 10-1 in the last 11 All-Star games.

The Toronto Blue Jays return to action on Friday when they host the (47-50) Detroit Tigers (4:07PM).

Toronto is 44-52 as of the All-Star break, last in the A.L East.

BCFC:

The Prince George Kodiaks kick off their third season in the BC Football Conference when they host the Vancouver Island Raiders Saturday night at 6:00 at Masich Place Stadium.

CFL:  

The (5-1) B.C. Lions play their next game Sunday (4PM) in Calgary against the (2-3) Stampeders.

The Lions are tied with (5-1) Montreal for the best record in the league.

Week 7 of the CFL season begins with a pair of Friday games: (0-5) Edmonton at (3-2) Ottawa (4PM) followed by (2-4) Winnipeg at (4-1) Saskatchewan (6:30).

The Elks will be playing their first game under interim head coach Jarious Jackson and interim general manager Geroy Simon.

They have taken over from the fired Chris Jones who held both jobs for the last 2 1/2 years.

Lacrosse:

The Devils are Prince George Senior Men’s lacrosse champions.

They whipped the Bandits 12-3 on Monday to sweep the best-of-5 playoff final 3-0, outscoring the Bandits by a total of 39-13.

Devils goalie Patrick Bayliss was named playoff MVP.
