Soccer:

Copa America Final: (in Miami)

Argentina  1  Colombia  0  (Sunday night)

The defending champions from Argentina won a record 16th Copa América title thanks to a late extra-time goal in the 112th minute.

Canada ended up 4th losing the bronze medal game Saturday to Uruguay on penalty kicks after the teams tied 2-2.

Euro 2024: Final: (in Berlin, Germany)

Spain  2  England  1  (Sunday)

Spain broke the record for goals at a European Championship as they won a record
fourth title at the tournament.

Tennis:

At age 21 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain has won back-to-back Wimbledon titles and four majors overall.

Alcarez whipped seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets (6-2, 6-2, 7-6) in the men’s Wimbledon final.

 

CFL:  (Final game in Week 6)

Ottawa  37  Edmonton  34

Lewis Ward kicked a 38 yard field goal on the final play of the game to give the (3-2) Redblacks the victory over the (0-5) Elks.

The same teams meet again Friday in Ottawa.

The B.C. Lions are 5-1 and in first place in the West after they handed Saskatchewan its first loss 35-20 on Saturday in Vancouver. The Riders are 4-1.

The Lions play their next game Sunday (4PM) in Calgary against the (2-3) Stampeders.

Week 7 begins with a pair of Friday games: Edmonton at Ottawa (4PM) followed by Winnipeg at Saskatchewan (6:30).

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  8  Arizona Diamondbacks  7

The Blue Jays are 44-52 as of the All-Star break, last in the A.L East.

Toronto will play its next game on Friday when they host the (47-50) Detroit Tigers (4:07PM).

The MLB All-Star game is tomorrow (Tuesday) night in Arlington, Texas, home of the Rangers.

Hockey:

 

Paralympics:

Joel Ewert of Prince George will be be wearing Canadian colors when he competes at the  2024 Paris Paralympic Games which will be held August 28th to September 8th.

The 24-year-old Ewert is one of 12 athletes selected to Canada’s Men’s Wheelchair Rugby Team.

He will be one of three players on the team making their Paralympic debut.

 

PG Senior Men’s Lacrosse

(Game 2 in the championship series)

Devils  14  Bandits  6  (Thursday night)

The Devils lead the best-of-5 playoff final 2-0 with Game 3 tonight (Monday) at 8 at the Kopar Memorial Arena. They won the opener 13-4.

Golf:  

Former Smithers resident Wyatt Brook of Heffley Creek (which is near Kamloops) finished  in 3rd place, seven strokes off the lead at the 122nd B.C. men’s amateur golf tournament at the Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford.

Cooper Humphreys of Vernon won the 72-hole tournament at 13-under-267 followed by
James Fahy of Vancouver, at 7-under with Brook next at 6-under.

The four Prince George golfers in the field of 159 all missed the 36-hole cut,
