$1 million given to fund Nechako Watershed research

The University of Northern BC will be able to study the Nechako River watershed after getting $1 million in funding.

The Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund has given half the funding the green light for four professors to begin studying the watershed with the other half coming the province.

Environmental Science Associate Professor Stephen Dery says the four year project will look at climate change and water security.

Dery says they will also look at sources of water in the Nechako Watershed and to study current information about the watershed.

$500,000 will be used to train students, hire a project manager and purchase equipment.
