The Cornish Mountain wildfire has Barkerville under an evacuation alert, however, the historical site is still running under its normal summer schedule for the time being.
The evacuation alert means people in the area should be prepared to leave on short notice, but does not require anyone to leave.
While the town is open, the following trails in the area have been closed:
Yellowhawk
• Jubilee
• Sugar Creek Loop
• Cornish Mountain
• Valley Mountain
• BGM Trail
• Cow Mountain
• Proserpine
Barkerville also mentioned the BC Wildfire Service is in the area, and extended a thanks for their work.
