Pineview Seniors Housing Society Frustrated by Delays

Residents are determined to set up a new seniors housing complex in Pineview, but it’s not coming easily.

The Sunrise Ridge Seniors Housing Society is working to implement 50 new units for seniors, but is growing impatient with continuing delays to the project.

“We’re dealing with government and doing the hoops that the government says we have to jump through.” said Chair Birthe Cisecki. “It’s like taking 1 step forward and 10 steps backwards but you just keep plugging away at it.”

According to a report from the Community Development Institute the area will need 50 new units within the next 10 years to keep up with demand.

“It’s really important for seniors to stay in their own communities” said Cisecki. “As a senior you need your support systems, you need to be able to go out and socialize and be with the people that you know really well.”

Seniors Housing is something rural communities need to be proactive about according to Cisecki.

“It’s something we probably should have thought of years ago when we were still young and had a lot more energy” said Cisecki. “When you’re young you don’t think you’re going to get old and when all of a sudden it’s upon you… here we are and we need it, and we need it now.”

The next step for the society is to establish a business plan to present to council.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
