SPCA holding July photography contest

The BC SCPA is inviting the public to take part in this year’s edition of their Wildlife in Focus photography contest.

“Wildlife-in-Focus celebrates the incredible variety of wild animals who call B.C. home,” says BC SPCA wild animal welfare specialist Nadia Xenakis. “It is also a great opportunity for British Columbians to showcase engaging with natural spaces in an ethical and responsible way, all while helping wild animals at Wild ARC.”

Photographers 14 years and older can submit as many photos as they like for no fee.

There are three categories – Wild Settings, Backyard Habitats, and People’s Choice.

The SPCA says entrants’ photos have been used in their magazines, educational materials, and in media.

This year’s winners’ photos will be used on greeting cards and a tote bag that can be purchased to raise money for the organization.

According to the SPCA, last year’s contest raised over $10,000.

That money went towards “specialized diets, treatment, blankets, and other supplies necessary to support the rehabilitation of wild animals at BC SPCA’s Wild ARC,” where over 2,000 animals are cared for every year.

The submission deadline is July 22.
