First PG heat wave of summer expected by the weekend: Environment Canada

Daily temperatures are expected to be six to ten degrees above normal by the weekend as Prince George is predicted to receive its first warm spell of the summer.

Environment Canada says the northern capital could find itself above the 30-degree mark Sunday and Monday.

Meteorologist, Ken Dosanjh told MyPGNow.com this comes off the heels of what was a wet and cool June.

“The mean temperature was on the order of 12.3 degrees. The normal for this period (June) is 13.75. As we move into precipitation, it was wetter than normal – Prince George saw 123% of its normal precipitation on average. Prince George normally sees around 65 millimetres for June.”

He adds a ridge of high pressure will sit off-shore and start to elevate by mid-week.

“Normally, we are looking at 22 or 23 degree highs. We will generally be seasonal from now until the next couple of days but then as soon as we start to move into the weekend, that is when temperatures will elevate to six to ten degrees above normal.”
