Update: three Cougars selected at NHL Draft

Hunter Laing is a Calgary Flame prospect.

The 6’6 rookie forward was selected by the Flames in the 6th round, 171st overall.

Laing played 66 games in the 2023-24 season, scoring 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points.

Welcome to Detroit, Ondrej Becher.

With the 80th overall pick, the Detroit Red Wings have taken the two-way Cougar forward.

Becher had an explosive second season with the Cougars, racking up 32 goals and 64 assists for 94 points in just 58 games.

He also scored 10 points in 7 games at the World Juniors with the Czech team.

Terik Parascak was the first Cougar taken, 17th overall by the Washington Capitals.

He was the first Cougar taken in the first round since Brett Connolly in 2010.

Northern BC’s highest selected player was Medicine Hat Tigers forward Cayden Lindstrom, from Chetwynd, 4th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Goaltender Evan Gardner from Fort Ft. John was taken 60th overall, also by Columbus, after an impressive rookie season with the Saskatoon Blades.

Prince George’s own Miguel Marques was taken 87th overall by the Nashville Predators. He played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes last season.
