– Files by George Henderson, My Cariboo Now

Guilty of second-degree murder.

That was the verdict handed down yesterday (Thursday) in Quesnel in the Supreme Court trial of 53-year old Joseph Simpson.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of interference with a dead body at the start of the trial.

Simpson is due back in court on July 8th to set a date for sentencing.

He was charged in connection with the death of 33-year-old Carmelita Abraham.

She was reported missing by her family back on January 4th 2022.

Investigators determined that she had left Williams Lake for Quesnel about a week before that.

The North District Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation on January 10th and Simpson was arrested a few days later.

RCMP said at the time that the accused and the victim were known to each other.
