Nechako Valley Search and Rescue is looking for new recruits.
The organization is based in Vanderhoof and conducts body and missing persons searches as well as helps issue evacuation notices.
President Chris Mushumanski says the need for them has grown in recent years. They were called out 22 times in 2013, 14 last year and 18 times so far this year.
“It’s also important for people to be aware that we are volunteers, and as volunteers we respect the opportunity for people to say no. But at the same time, if someone is in need we do like to have as many people available as possible.”
The group has ground rescue teams, rope rescue squads and a crew specially trained for swift water and flat ice rescues.
Those interested are asked to get in touch with the group on Facebook or at [email protected]. The first training session is on September 26th.
