City Council gives green light to tree planting grant application

The City of Prince George will apply for a grant to help with tree planting in the city.

At Monday’s meeting, City Council gave the green light to apply for a grant through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative.

“The application is for up to $50,000 to contribute to municipal tree renewal efforts,” Director of Civic Operations Blake McIntosh told City Council.

A report presented to Council states the money would be contributed to the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Tree Replanting Plan Project.

According to the report, the project will contribute to park tree planting, which focuses on establishing new groves and revitalizing existing tree stands in public parks, keeping green spaces healthy and biodiverse.
