SD57 requests upgrade funding from province: could result in new D.P. Todd

School District 57 has requested funding from the Ministry of Education for multiple school expansion projects, which could include a new D.P. Todd school.

SD57’s board of trustees voted to submit the 2025/26 Five-Year Major Capital Plan to the Ministry at last night’s board meeting (Tuesday).

Included in that plan is a request for $130,896,514 for the full replacement of D.P. Todd.

However, the district also requested $88,584,769 for additions and renovations to the existing school building to increase capacity from 600 to 900 – giving two options to address the need for increased capacity at the school.

“Now it is in the hands of the Ministry to determine what they want to do with that information,” Board Chair Craig Brennan told My PG Now following the meeting. “We have set the priorities, now we await what they say they are able to fund.”

Brennan said he has not heard from the school as to which option they would prefer.

“There are merits of both, both have upsides and challenges,” he explained. “To be honest, I think we would be happy with either.”

D.P. Todd is not the only school SD57 is looking to expand.

They also made requests for four new classrooms, a daycare, and a multipurpose room in each of Edgewood ($8,560,383), Malaspina ($9,091,633), and Springwood ($10,587,258)  Elementary Schools.

The total project cost of expanding these three Elementary Schools and D.P. Todd would be $116,824,043.
