Hundreds of classic cars and thousands of spectators will flock to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park on Sunday (June 16) for the annual Father’s Day Show and Shine.
Rick Fewster, the Cruisin’ Classics Car Club Treasurer, said between 350-400 cars come out to the park in years when the weather is nice – which this year is forecasted to be.
“We don’t do a gate count, but we estimate 10,000 – 15,000 people [come]. It is packed.”
“There is a lot of speculation as to why we keep doing this on Father’s Day,” Fewster said with a laugh. “It has just stuck. Maybe part of it is there is not a lot of competition on Father’s Day, we are the draw.”
The Show and Shine will be held from 10:00 – 3:00 in the park and is free to attend.
The Exploration Place will be holding an adjacent barbecue and beer garden from 11:00 – 4:00.
The Crusin’ Classics Car Club are also living up to their name on Saturday and will parade through town in many of the cars that will be on display on Sunday.
While he did not know the exact times and route, Fewster said they will be all across town, from UNBC to the Northern Lights Estate Winery and Railway, Forestry Museum, and Coast Inn of the North.
“Hopefully the weather permits and lots of people show up,” he said, adding a convoy like this has not happened in Prince George since before the pandemic.
Rounding out the weekend, club members are also touring their vehicles around local retirement homes today, where some who are not able to go too far from home can still enjoy the club members’ hard work maintaining and restoring their vehicles.
“We have done that every year, it is well received. The people are happy, always calling and wanting us to come back the next year,” Fewster said.
