The province’s largest BC Rodeo Association (BCRA) rodeo returns to Prince George this weekend.
According to PG Western Heritage Society President Kevin Cunin, this year’s three-day rodeo Rodeo Prince George will see 450 competitors entertain what will likely be a capacity crowd.
“You’ll see the best amateur rodeo in the province for the third year running,” Cunin told My PG Now. “We have the most Rough Stock of any rodeo in the province this year.”
There will be Barrel Racing tomorrow (Friday) night, then the main rodeo schedule carries on through Saturday and Sunday.
They are also hosting a barn dance in Kin 2 on Saturday night, which Cunin said doubles the capacity of the two prior iterations of the event.
“We have a bigger 5-piece band coming from Alberta, bigger stage, bigger lights, bigger everything,” he said.
Organizers are expecting sold-out crowds on Saturday and Sunday – Friday’s Barrel Races are free to attend, and the beer garden will be open.
Thankful to volunteers and sponsors for making Rodeo PG happen for the third straight year, Cunin explained planning for the Father’s Day weekend event is a year-long process.
“Planning for next year’s rodeo will start happening on Sunday. It is a 12-month deal.”
With that in mind, he was especially grateful to see a shift in the forecast, which earlier was calling for another wet weekend but is now predicting some sun.
