After staying flat for six straight months, unemployment in Canada rose two tenths of a point to 7%.
The economy added 12,000 new jobs, but the jobless rate still rose as more people were looking for work.
Andrew Fields with Stats Canada says unemployment in Prince George is at 7.7%
“The labour force and number of people employed both declined. There were 4000 fewer people working compared with last August.”
That is up 3% from the same time last year. The rate dips slightly compared to July 2015 when it was 7.8%, but Stats Canada says a change of that magnitude is statistically irrelevant.
