Registered Nurses (RN) and (Licenced Practical Nurses) who start a new job in rural northern communities could be in for a very big payday.
Northern Health is offering a $30,000 incentive for two years of service for Emergency RNs and LPNs for nurses to relocate to rural and remote communities from urban communities.
“Right now we have 173 vacancies for nursing positions that serve emergency services, so we are looking to recruit as many people as possible,” said Regional Manager for Recruitment Services Emelye MacFarlane.
“People are eligible if they’re new to a rural and remote community, including Prince George, they’re also eligible if they’ve previously worked in an urban/metro centre, and also eligible if they’re relocating to a rural or remote community, or are new to BC’s public health centre.”

MacFarlane noted the North is receiving more incentives for recruitment from the Provincial Government than other areas in BC.
“There are challenges and there are always has been challenges in recruiting to rural and remote communities,” she said.
“It’s a unique setting, it’s a unique practice setting, living setting that isn’t for everyone, however there are people who come to our communities and really do love the rural and remote practice and the rural and remote lifestyle.”
