Quesnel Constable to help train this year’s Cops for Cancer riders

The Tour de North Cops for Cancer will start their seven-day, 850-kilometre ride from Dawson Creek to Williams Lake on September 20th.

This year’s team has 16 members made up of law enforcement, first responders, and “guest riders” from across the north, and was unveiled during a presentation to Quinson Elementary School students earlier this month.

Quesnel RCMP Constable Anne Bock will be training the riders for the ride.

Together, they have the goal of raising $200,000 for pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes.

“I get to tell them about my experiences and hope that they can learn from my mistakes and not create their own,” Bock said.

“I do get to get after them to get ton their bikes and go peddling. There isn’t the pressure on me to do as many kilometres but I like to lead by example so I’m doing them anyway just to encourage them to try and keep up because it’s so much fun.”

Bock noted that the important part in training for Tour is for people who aren’t seasoned cyclists to not do too much all at once.

“Don’t do 200 kilometres your very first ride of training because you won’t probably get on a bike again after that so start slow and build from there and consistency is key,” she continued.

“Eating healthy is super important. The healthier you eat the better your body responds to any training and it just improves your health general as well which is a great to help prevent Cancer.”

Bock has ridden the Cops for Cancer Tour de North twice in the past so we asked if she would take part in this event next year.

“I’m not sure yet. I’ve ridden before and I would like to leave some room for other people to get a chance to experience how awesome it can be,” Bock said.

Tour de North has raised $3.3 million since 2001, all the Cops for Cancer events in the country have raised $54 million since 1997.
