WHL:

Moose Jaw Warriors  4  Portland  Winterhawks  2

The Warriors swept the series 4-0 to become WHL champions for the first time.

The Warriors won the first two games in Portland 3-2 on Friday and 5-1 on Saturday.

Moose Jaw won Game 3 at home 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday.

The Hershey Bears, the AHL farm club of the Washington Capitals, have signed Prince George Cougars sniper Zac Funk to an amateur tryout agreement.

The 20-year-old Funk, in his final WHL season, was second in league scoring with 123 points and first in goals with 67.

Funk was signed by the Capitals on March 1 to a three-year, entry-level contract that begins in the 2024-25 season.

BC Sports Hall of Fame:

The late Amanda Asay will be bestowed with yet another honour tonight (Thursday) in Vancouver.

She is being inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame’s Hall of Champions – a list that includes Justin Morneau (Baseball), Ryan Cochrane (Swimming), Cassie Sharpe (Freestyle Skiing) and Richard Zokol (Golf).

Last Month, Asay was also inducted in the PG Sports Hall of Fame.

At the time of her passing in January of 2022, she was the longest-serving member of Baseball Canada Women’s National Team program.

 

Track:

Adam Sieban from the Prince George Track and Field Club has committed to compete for the University of Regina in the fall.

Sieben was one of 14 Rising Star Award winners recognized by the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame last month.
