The Prince George RCMP’s Downtown Safety Unit and Problem-Oriented Policing Team held a successful series of “boost-and-bust” projects throughout the city last week.
Officers partnered with retailers in Pine Centre Mall, Parkwood Mall and Superstore.
Mounties arrested 33 people and recovered over $4,500 worth of product between the three locations.
“The goal of the Boost and Bust projects is to assist retail outlets in Prince George that are feeling the effects of repeated theft, by targeting shoplifters with the assistance of the Loss Prevention Officers already working in these locations,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
Boost and Bust projects resulted in approximately 70 arrests in 2023.
The Downtown Safety Unit and the Problem Oriented Policing Team have already surpassed 60 arrests in the first quarter of 2024.
In some instances, people have been arrested in more than one Boost and Bust project, this information is included in the report to Crown Counsel for consideration during the charge approval process.
