WorkSafe BC safety videos cross milestone

WorkSafe BC says their YouTube channel has grown into a big success since launching almost ten years ago.

It now has 18,000 subscribers and over 25 million video views.

Gordon Thorne with WorkSafe BC says social media has grown into an invaluable tool for them.

“In fact almost 40% of our videos are now viewed on mobile devices. So using social and mobile access helps us get this information out there to more workers and employers.”

“People are interested in learning this way more and more, we don’t publish as many books as we used to because people are more interested in visual ways of understanding safety.” Thorne continued “If we can save someone’s life or prevent a serious injury because they’ve watched one of our safety videos than we’ve done our job.”

He says the channel is full of safety materials for all industries, including the forestry sector. He added that many companies have begun to rely safety videos to keep their employees safe.

Thorne also noted that they have an app that allows the download of any safety material to a handheld device.

“So if someone wants to find something on chainsaw safety, or falling or bucking they can watch those videos on a phone or tablet wherever they are, say in a camp and not need internet access.”

WorkSafeBC says that social media and video will become a bigger and bigger part of their message in the future.
