Parts of downtown sealed off after suspected fire

Part of downtown was closed off yesterday as emergency crews attended to a possible fire.

PG fire rescue got the call around 4 in the afternoon, and quickly shut down the streets around the Plaza 400 building.

“I was met by maintenance and they told me there was some sort of fire in the electrical vault on the second floor,” explains Assistant Chief John Heslip, “We had an attack crew actually go inside the vault there. They found temperatures around 300 degrees and no smoke, just a bit of heat. There was a smell of something burning but there was nothing visible when they were inside the vault.”

As a precautionary measure, 4th avenue was sealed off in multiple spots, and power and gas were turned off.

A few other buildings were affected by the power shutdown, including the courthouse.
