Five hectare wildfire near Chetwynd under control

A small wildfire south of Chetwynd is under control according to the Prince George Fire Centre

The 5.2 hectare blaze was discovered on Sunday and was first reported as out of control.

Fire Information Officer, Nicole Bonnett told MyPGNow.com crews made great progress over the long-weekend.

“They had completed putting guard around the fire perimeter and had completed a ten-foot wet line on both the north and west flanks and then when they went back out yesterday morning (Tuesday) we had received a bunch of precipitation on site while the crews were out there.”

“Yesterday was a lot of hot spot extinguishment and patrols to locate additional hot spots and then that same work is occurring with the crews that are on-site.”

There are 95 active wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre, most of which are holdovers from 2023.
