City Crews weathering freeze-thaw cycles as pot hole season begins

City crews are out and about dealing with pot holes that are plaguing our streets.

So far this year, the City of Prince George has received 55 requests for potholes to be filled, while filling 40 of them.

Manager of Roads and Fleet, Jordan Wiseman told MyPGNow.com the freeze-thaw cycles do pose a bit of a challenge.

“We are utilizing cold mix. Chances are we are going to have to go back and revisit those potholes but the big thing right now is just make sure we get the pothole filled so there is no incident.”

Last year, the city got 960 requests to fill potholes, while patching up over 25-hundred.

Wiseman noted the increased capital investment toward repairing roads and sidewalks in Prince George is starting to pay dividends.

“If you were to go back to 2015 for example, the city filled 20-thousand potholes as opposed to last year where we filled 2,500.”

“The freeze-thaw cycles can be problematic this time of year. When it warms up this time of years, some of the potholes will be filled with water with a little bit of ice and of course on night shift, they will be iced over. Crews have a number of ways to combat that – one will utilize a Tiger Torch or compressed air to blow the contaminants out of the pot hole.”
