WHL:

With 11 points (seven goals, four assists) and a +3 rating in four games, Terik Parascak of the Prince George Cougars is the WHL Player of the Week.

It’s the first time the 17-year-old Parascak has been named Player of the Week, though he has been named WHL Rookie of the Week five times and Rookie of the Month twice.

With 43 goals and 60 assists in 66 games, Parascak’s 103 points lead the WHL rookie scoring race.

He is also 8th in league scoring.

Parascak is ranked 14th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of June’s NHL Entry Draft.


The (47-15-1-3) Cougars are in first place in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the (46-15-3-1) Portland Winterhawks.

P.G. has two games left; at Kamloops on Friday and home against Kamloops on Saturday.

Portland has three games remaining; at Tri-City on Friday, home to Seattle on Saturday and at Seattle on Sunday.

The Cougars extended their club-record point streak to 17 games following Sunday’s 6-3 victory over the Vancouver Giants.

WHL scoring leader Zac Funk notched two more goals against the Giants to give him 67 in 66 games.

BCHL:

Forward Scott Cousins of the Prince George Spruce Kings is the BCHL’s first star of the week.

Cousins notched three goals and two assists for five points in a split of two weekend home games against the Merritt Centennials.

In 46 games this season, Cousins has 19 points (9G, 10A).

The PG Spruce Kings have four regular season games remaining.

They host the Vernon Vipers Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00 before they play at Vernon on Friday, March 29th and at Merritt on Saturday, March 30th.

The (15-32-3) Spruce Kings, who have lost 11 of their last 13, will finish last in the 8-team Interior Division and will meet the first-place Penticton Vees in the opening round of the BCHL playoffs.

BC Elite Hockey League: (in Burnaby)

The season is over for the U18 Cariboo Cougars following Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver North East Chiefs.

The Chiefs won the best-of-three semifinal series 2-1.

Vancouver took the opener 6-5 in overtime and Cariboo won Game Two 4-1.

Alex Ovechkin scored twice for the Caps to raise his career goal total to 843, second to — and 51 behind — Wayne Gretzky.

Buffalo  6  Seattle  2

The (42-18-8) Vancouver Canucks continue a whopping 9-game homestand tonight at 7:00 against the (33-31-5) Buffalo Sabres.

It is one of 13 Tuesday games in the NHL where Calgary is the only Canadian team idle.

The Edmonton Oilers are home against the Montreal Canadiens this evening.

Para Biathlon:

Canada finished third in medals (with 10) behind Ukraine and Germany at the Para Nordic World Cup Finals at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club in Prince George.
