Spring-like weather returning to Prince George

After a brief cold spell, temperatures are expected to warm up in Prince George by the weekend.

According to Environment Canada, daily highs are predicted to reach plus six by Friday and nine above by Monday, slightly warmer than normal.

However, Meteorologist, Lisa Erven told MyPGNow.com, that the balmy conditions don’t mean we are out of the woods just yet when it comes to winter.

“I always like to think of March as a really interesting month. It’s this transition from winter toward warmer weather. In March and even April, you can get pretty much all types of weather from very cold temperatures to hot temperatures to snow, rail, and hail.”

“I won’t say this is the end of winter. Anything can happen as we transition from the cold months to the warmer months but we need to be keeping our eye on the forecast and seeing what the trends are looking like on a week-to-week basis, will help prevent you from getting surprised by the weather.”

Erven added the weather models might change slightly by Sunday, which may claw back temperatures by a few degrees to begin the new work week.

“There are some disagreements as to how the models for just how the weather pattern will evolve but I think once we get through the weekend and the main storm system, we may find ourselves back in a little bit more of a cooled, unsettled pattern.”

Tomorrow’s (Thursday) forecast calls for a high of zero with flurries and some light snow in the evening and overnight hours.
