The future Hart Skate Park is inching closer to being a reality, and the city is calling on the public for design input.
Two design workshops will give people a chance to share what they want to see installed at Bravery Park.
“With the interactive design workshop we’re asking people to come out and give their thoughts as to what they’d like to see in the park,” says park planner Laurie Ann Kosec, “We’re inviting youth in particular to help us design this skate park with everything from sketching it up, bringing some ideas, and voting on what they’d like to see.”
In Mondays City Council meeting, Councillors agreed it is important to involve young people in the process.
“They’ll be the primary user group, and typically that’s a pretty hard group to reach,” says Kosec, “It’s very important that they come out and have their say.
The long-term plan for Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park includes other upgrades like new fencing, trails, and a fenced dog park area.
A report to Council cited Duchess Park as an example of a park that offers something to every age group.
While there has been no objection to the long-term plan, it might just not happen all at once.
“While the skate park itself is estimated at $500,000 to construct, including detailed design and engineering, any other park improvements above and beyond like an accessible trail and playground improvements would be on top of that,” explains Kosec.
Kosec hopes fundraising and donations will help the project come out under the $500,000 budget.
Official dates for the interactive workshops and design deadline are expected to be released later this week.
