Timberwolves welcome interim bench boss

UNBC has named Steve Simonson as the interim head coach of the men’s soccer team.

Simonson was involved with the Victoria Highlanders of the US Premier Development League for seven years, and served as the head coach from 2012-2014.

Steve’s head coaching experience and leadership will help our men’s soccer team continue to develop and excel in Canada West,” says UNBC Director of Athletics and Recreation Loralyn Murdoch. “We needed to find a new interim head coach in a short time frame and I’m delighted to be able to name someone of Steve’s calibre to the position.”

Practices are already underway, and the team will have its first crack at the competition this weekend in a pre-season game against Grant MacEwan University of Edmonton in Kamloops.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with the exceptional group of student athletes at UNBC,” Simonson says. “The Timberwolves program continues to improve each season and this year we will once again field a team that can compete in a strong Canada West conference.”

Regular season kicks off in September, with the home opener taking place on the 26th against the University of the Fraser Valley.
