Culinary Team Canada will visit Prince George for a practice run before the Culinary Olympics in Germany next year.
People can get a taste of what’s in store when the team hosts an evening with a full course meal and wine pairings at CNC on October 5th.
While the menu hasn’t been finalized, team manager JC Felicella wants to keep things local.
“Some of the team members are from BC, so we are using products that are somewhat indigenous to BC. So we are using local sturgeon, we’re in the process of using venison from Alberta, so our menu is based on local products.”
The team first visited in PG in 2013, and team manager JC Felicella says CNC Culinary Instructor Ron Christian got the ball going
“We needed a venue, and he just said ‘Come to Prince George, this is the place to be!’, and it was actually my first visit,” says Felicella, “It was amazing. We were quite surprised by the warm reception, the community was amazing, and they really rallied behind us. It was incredible to see.”
The team went on to win the gold in a cold table competition and a silver in the hot kitchen competition at the Salon Culinaire Mondial event in Basel, Switzerland.
“We never expected that we would get them to come back to CNC,” said President, Henry Reiser. “We thought that their previous visit would be their only one. Needless to say we are extremely excited to host them again.”
With the success of the first event, Felicella thinks PG is an ideal place to prep for the future.
“It’s actually going to be our first practice. We’re getting close to finalizing our team, it should be done by the end of August, and there’s no better place to kick things off than in Prince George.”
Tickets for the ‘Going For Gold Dinner Soiree’ are $185, and the event will take place at the CNC atrium.
