PG to welcome riders for BC Motocross Championship

Prince George is playing host to riders from across Northern BC at this year’s BC Motocross Association Championship.

The races are taking place at the Blackwater Track next Saturday and Sunday.

PG Motocross Association Treasurer Tamara Proctor says a lot of younger riders are getting involved, and they often steal the show.

“We have a lot of local racers… We have 50 riders aged 4-6 out there racing with their parents chasing them around. I don’t know what’s more entertaining, watching the parents run around the track or the little guys racing!”

26 young riders recently competed at an event in Williams Lake, and the championship will see competitors travelling from as far as Terrace and Kamloops.

Proctor says an influx of children interested in motocross is promising news for the club.

“Our club is becoming more well-known, so we’re getting a lot of new members at our track, which is a great thing. We need those numbers to stay alive.”

The club is also hoping for some positive feedback after revamping their course.

Difficult weather earlier in the season saw riders tearing it up in mud and rain, which took a toll on the old track.

“We did a huge improvement on the track last year,” says Proctor, “The track is different from previous years. There’s hill climbs, a jump, it’s an amazing track that a lot of people don’t know about.”

The 3-moto championship competition takes places on August 22 and 23, with registration starting on Friday the 21st.

Spectator entry is $20 per truckload.
