PG track club chimes in on grant funding from NDIT

Yesterday, Northern Development Initiatives Trust announced a $250,000 grant for Masich Place stadium upgrades.

Today, The PG Track and Field Club is responding to that, welcoming the funding but also dishing out concerns about the delay in overall funding from the city, and the effects it has on the tracks condition.

Heres Club President Brian Martinson:

“The track needs maintenance and it needs it now. It was supposed to have been done this year; It really should’ve been done five years ago, and it wont get done this year and we are starting to even wonder about next year. So that’s our other big concern”

He explained how regular re-surfacing of the track should be completed every ten years, and says almost twenty have gone by since its last completion.

He adds that they are very supportive of the city’s efforts to garner the funding, but he says the condition of the track continues to seriously deteriorate as every day goes by.

A decision on the city’s $3.2 million dollar request to the Union of BC Municipalities is expected sometime later this year.
