Five Special Olympics BC Prince George athletes will be competing at a national level later this month.
Lance Pattinson, Sam Russell, Spencer Rourke, David Dunn, and Marinka Van Hage will be members of Team BC at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games being held in Calgary.
Russell and Rourke are members of the Curling team, consisting of athletes from Quesnel and Prince George.
Pattinson is a member of the five-pin bowling team, which consists of athletes from Dawson Creek, Quesnel and Prince George.
Dunn and Van Hage will compete in snowshoeing.
“These Prince George athletes have been training for the past three years,” said Special Olympics BC Prince George Public Relations Coordinator Wilma Van Hage in a news release.
“In 2022 they competed at a regional level and did well enough to represent Region 8 at Provincial games which were held last year in Kamloops. From there, they were selected to be members of Team BC in their respective sports.”
The Special Olympics competitions run on a four-year cycle, beginning with Regionals, Provincials, Nationals and Worlds.
The games run February 27th to March 2nd.
