WHL:

Prince George Cougars  5  Kamloops Blazers  3  (Sunday at CN Centre)

The Cougars scored three unanswered goals in the third period, with two of them by Carlin Dezainde to erase a 3-2 deficit before 3,543 hometown fans.

Zac Funk also tallied twice to give him a league-leading 46 goals on the season, eight shy of the PG Cougars single-season record of 54, set by Quinn Hancock in the 1997-98 season.

Prince George outshot Kamloops 36-14 as the last-place Blazers had a 4-game winning streak come to an end.

The (33-15-0-2) Cougars are third in the Western Conference, three points behind the (34-12-2-1) Portland Winterhawks and a point back of the (33-17-1-2) Everett Silvertips.

Prince George will continue a 4-game homestand Friday and Saturday against the Victoria Royals.

The visiting Bucks scored their seven goals on 26 shots before 906 fans.

The (13-21-3) Spruce Kings, with 17 regular season games left, play their next five on the road starting Friday in Salmon Arm and continuing Saturday in Penticton.

Prince George is last in the 8-team Interior Division, three points behind the (14-20-3-1) Merritt Centennials and five back of the (16-23-2) Bucks.

With four games remaining in their regular season, the (24-6-2) U18 Cougars are in second place, two points behind the (24-4-2-2) Vancouver North East Chiefs and one point ahead of the (24-5-1) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

The U18 Cougars, riding a 4-game win streak, play the (17-11-1-1) Valley West Giants Saturday morning at 10:00 and the (18-10-1-1) Okanagan Rockets Sunday morning at 8:00 at the league showcase in Chilliwack.

NHL:

With the All-Star break over for some teams, NHL regular season action resumes tonight (Monday) with two games: New York Islanders at Toronto and Colorado at New York Rangers.

The (33-11-5) Vancouver Canucks, riding an 11-game point streak, begin a 5-game road trip Tuesday at Carolina (4:00) against the (28-15-5) Hurricanes,

It will be the first game in a Vancouver uniform for forward Elias Lindholm.

He was acquired from the Calgary Flames in return for forward Andrei Kuzmenko, two prospects (Hunter Brzustewicz, and Joni Jurmo) a first-round pick in this year’s NHL draft and a conditional fourth-round pick.

The Canucks have the best record in the Western Conference and are tied with the (31-9-9) Boston Bruins for the top record in the NHL.

The Edmonton Oilers put their 16-game win streak on the line Tuesday when they start a 3-game road trip against the (29-15-6) Vegas Golden Knights.

The (29-15-1) Oilers are one shy of the NHL record of 17 set by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Soccer:

Canada will host 13 of the 104 games at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Seven of those games will be played in Vancouver with the other six in Toronto.

Mexico also will host 13 games while the other 78 will be played in the United States in the expanded 48-team men’s soccer tournament.
