Prince George to be pushing all-time January temperature record next week

Temperatures are already well above seasonal in Prince George and it is only going to get warmer over the next few days.

According to Lisa Erven, an Environment Canada Meteorologist, we could be in store for the hottest January day ever recorded in the region.

She said Monday’s daytime high is currently forecast at +11 with the potential to still go up.

“The current standing temperature record for January 29th is +12.2 degrees, set back in 1931,” Erven said. “Not only do we get close to setting a daily temperature record, the all-time extreme maximum temperature record for January is sitting at +12.8, which is not much higher.”

“We are already seeing temperatures that are 5-8 degrees warmer than this time of year, we are going to see temperatures 10-15 degrees above normal [this weekend].”

Temperatures will eventually dip back into the negatives, but Erven said exactly when is still up in the air.

“We have a lot of weather to deal with between now and then, but look toward mid next week and beyond,” she explained.
