City's District Energy System highlighted for its innovation

Prince George’s District Energy System was highlighted today by local dignitaries for its development.

The $15 million dollar system has been operating for the past two years, but $4.8 million dollars in federal funding was recognized today by the city.

Prince George-Peace River MP Bob Zimmer says the system helps the city become good stewards to the environment.

Prince George Mayor Shari Green says the District Energy System has seven municipal buildings hooked up to it.

Green says last year the district energy system reduced the city’s natural gas consumption by 17,000 gigajoules, enough to heat 110 homes for the year.
