The BC wildfire situation certainly doesn’t seem as dire as it did a few weeks ago, and we may have the rainy weather to thank for it.
The Prince George and Cariboo fire centres have been cleared of the campfire ban, but fireworks and burn barrels are still banned in the Bulkley/Skeena fire centre.
That being said, chief fire information officer Kevin Skrepnek says people still need to use common sense, as hot weather lies ahead…
“If people are in an area where campfires are allowed, we just want to make sure they are fully extinguishing them before they leave the area for any period of time, especially looking to the next few days where we see a real rebound to hot and dry conditions. People just need to use all proper caution when they are in the back country.”
Skrepnek noted 4 out of 10 fires started this weekend were caused by humans.
“We’re making excellent progress on a number of our larger incidents, and certainly the weather has been a key factor in that” says Skrepnek, “We do have to anticipate an increase in fire activity over the next few days given the fact we;ll be back to hot and dry conditions.”
