After a long stretch of provincial controversy and complaints from people living in the area, construction is officially beginning on the Site C dam.
Trees and brush have been cleared the create space for access roads, and a material disposal area.
PG company A.L. Simms and Sons was hired to work on the access roads in late July.
Project Director for the Ministry of Transportation Tony Bennett says some of the roads were just gravel, and widening and paving the roads will improve safety and dust control.
Starting today, the North Bank Site Preparation contractor will mobilize the area and begin work on the north bank of the
dam site.
Grading will also begin on the spot where the worker camp will be.
One big selling point of the dam was job creation, and machine-operation jobs are starting to pop up on the Morgan Construction website.
The $7.9 million project is expected to be completed in a little over a year.
