Operation Red nose completed 88 rides on New Year’s Eve, bringing the season’s total to 469 rides.
Last year’s campaign ended with a total of just under 500, which at the time was the fewest since 2008.
Some technical difficulties did not help the low total, Ken Pendergast, the Operation Red Nose Prince George Co-Chair, said their phone line cut off at midnight on New Year’s Eve, which took about 30 minutes to fix.
“We tried to take alternative measures by visiting a lot of the different parties and picking up clients,” he said. “It was a minor hiccup, but it was a successful night.”
“We wound up with 15 teams, that was a good number for us on New Year’s Eve,” Pendergast continued. “Everybody was pretty active, we didn’t have a lot of people sitting around.”
All of the rides were completed by donation with the proceeds supporting local youth sports. Pendergast did not have a final total ready to share.
“We appreciate the support we received in Prince George again this year… the people that participated in using rides were very good to deal with, we had a good year.”
