A shortage of properly trained volunteers has led to the suspension of services within the Bear Lake Volunteer Fire Department (BLVFD).
According to the Regional District of Fraser Fort-George, the suspension, which took effect on Friday (December 1st), means the department will not be responding to any fire, rescue or medical emergency incidents.
Without sufficient training, the BLVFD is not in compliance with provincial structural firefighter training standards.
In addition, the Regional District will continue to assist the community by providing training to its current members.
Volunteer firefighters are required to complete basic training and attend 60 hours of training per year.
