Prince George Cougars  4  Portland Winterhawks  0  (Sunday)

17-year-old Josh Ravensbergen earned his 5th shutout of the season with 33 saves.

It was just his 11th start and 14th appearance.

Ravensbergen leads the WHL with a .944 save percentage and a 1.63 goals-against-average.

The Cougars record for shutouts in one season is six and that was set by Scott Bowles.

Zac Funk notched a hat trick (his 4th three-goal game of the season) to give him a league-high 30 goals in 28 games, including 12 in his last six games.

Riley Heidt picked up three assists and now leads the WHL in scoring with 53 points in 26 games.

It was the Cougars’ third win in as many days south of the border.

The (7-13-3) Spruce Kings play their next two games against the (10-13-1) Bucks in Cranbrook on Friday and Saturday.

The next home games for Prince George will be on Dec. 15th and 16th against Trail.

The Spruce Kings are last in the 8-team Interior Division, four points behind 7th place Cranbrook and five back of the (9-11-3-1) Merritt Centennials.

There are six Monday games in the NHL with two Canadian teams in action; Montreal hosts Seattle (4:30) and Winnipeg entertains Carolina (4:30).

The (16-8-1) Vancouver Canucks, coming off of Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Calgary, host the (11-10-1) New Jersey Devils Tuesday night at 7:00.

(Saturday was the 10th annual Pink in the Rink Game)

The (14-3-1) U18 Cougars host the last place (1-17) Vancouver Island Royals on Saturday afternoon at 2:45 and Sunday morning at 9:00 at Kin 1.

The U18 Cougars are in second place in the 9-team BC Elite Hockey League, just a point back of the (14-2-0-2) Vancouver North East Chiefs.

High School Volleyball:

The top-ranked Cedars Christian Eagles beat Unity Christian of Chilliwack 3-2 in the Gold Medal game, taking the 5th and deciding set 15-12, at the A Boys B.C. High School Volleyball Championship in Vancouver.

Sam Nelson was named tournament Most Outstanding Player and teammate Ryan Crosina was named to the first all-star team for the Eagles, who won all seven of their matches in the tournament.

Cedars whipped St. Ann’s Academy of Victoria 3-0 in the semifinal.

Bulkley Valley Christian was 9th and Houston Christian was 11th in the 16-team championship.

In other provincial volleyball tournaments involving teams from northern B.C.;

Duchess Park lost the Bronze Medal game 3-0 to Langley Christian to finish 4th at the AA Boys in Langley. D.P. Todd was 6th and Smithers 16th.

PGSS ended up 15th at the AAA Boys in Victoria.

Duchess Park placed 6th, College Heights 8th and PGSS 13th at the AAA Girls in Dawson Creek.

Shasti Kelly Road finished 12th at the AA Girls in West Vancouver.

Cedars Christian was 13th and Mackenzie 16th at the A Girls in Castlegar.
