Lombardy Mobile Park hits snag in remedial action order

The remedial action order against the Lombardy Trailer Park has taken another turn.

The Lombardy Management Group has made progress in the clean-up, but have failed to tackle several units.

A representative for the owners says the group felt they would be breaking the law if they moved in on the lots

“Many of the tenants did clean up, and the ones that didn’t co-operate… it was impossible to go on their lawns to clean them up,” says June Geisser, “They didn’t want to allow him (the owner) entry because of the Residential Tenancy Act.”

In a presentation to City Council, the group asked for a letter saying the City would cover all of the owner’s legal fees in the case of a class-action lawsuit.

The proposal was unanimously rejected.

City documents say all but one of the units ordered to be destroyed are vacant.

Since the July 21st demolition deadline has passed, the City now has the option to complete the demolition order and bill the park owners.

“I think the best thing would be for the City to move in as quickly as possible to complete this remediation,” says Councillor Jillian Merrick.

The City also denied a deadline extension to the owners of a derelict building on George Street.
