Rally in support of Palestinian civilians being held in PG this weekend

While the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to take more lives daily, some plan to gather in Prince George to show support for the dead and injured in the Gaza Strip.

“Missile strikes are happening, people are dying. Buildings are collapsing on top of people, babies are in hospitals without identification of who that baby is or who their parents are, it is really saddening stuff,” Mohamed Shubair, the rally organizer, told My PG Now. “Let’s do the least that we can… it is minimal, all the way here in Prince George, but it is also something.”

Shubair is a first-generation Canadian, he said both of his parents have lived in Gaza and immigrated to Canada in the late 1900s.

He said many of his family members are still in Gaza, some have been killed in missile strikes since the start of this conflict.

When asked what sort of turnout he is hoping to see, Shubair said “what is the population of Prince George?”

“The more the merrier. I am of the stance that any bloodshed is bad. I’m not here to make a pro-Palestine and anti-Israel, or pro-Israel and anti-Palestine event. I don’t really care about all that – whatever race you are, whatever religion you have, I don’t want to see anybody die of bloodshed,” he said, explaining the event is only centered around Palestine because of his personal ties.

“We all have different opinions, but we are going out on Saturday just as humans united to say regardless of everyone’s differences, we can all agree random, innocent civilians dying is a horrible thing for humanity.”

The rally is being held on Saturday (October 28) from 2:00 to 4:00 on Ospika Boulevard outside of the CN Centre.

“If you agree this message that I just gave, then come,” Shubair said in closing.
