High School enrollment up, Elementary down in SD57

The 2023-24 School District 57 enrollment numbers are in, and little has changed year-over-year.

Three out of eight high schools saw student growth – Mackenzie Secondary School leading the charge with 47.75 more students enrolled full-time, up to 289.875 from 242.125 a year ago.

In Prince George, DP Todd saw the most growth, up 42 students from 778 to 820.

PGSS shrunk by 28.5 full time students, but it is still by far Prince George’s largest post-secondary school with 1,428.75 learners enrolled full-time.

In total, 5,439 students are in high school in the district, up 64 from last year.

7,521 kids will be learning across the district’s 32 elementary schools this year.

All but 12 of them have smaller student populations than a year ago, the largest dip being felt by Foothills Elementary, down 30 students to 205.

Giscome Elementary school is the smallest in the district, with only 15 students attending.

Overall, there are 53 fewer elementary-level learners in SD57 this year, meaning from K-12 a whopping 11 more kids are studying in SD57 than there were a year ago.

When you factor in adults, alternate community programs, continuing education and online learning, that number goes up to 34 more students enrolled full-time.

A headcount of non-full-time online learners saw a massive spike, however.

267 students were tallied a year ago, that went up over 500 to 776 this year.

This information can be found in Tuesday’s School Board meeting agenda on page 24.
